The Wine Front - 18 August 21

New cask wines on the market with whizzbag, hip wine producers at the helm. All fellas (where’s the gals?!) but a roll call that includes Dom Valentine (here with rose of Yarra), Adam Foster (Syrahmi), Lethbridge and Phillip Lobely from Yea Valley. They’re very cool looking casks, more akin to perfume boxes. Great vibes here, and pretty darn good value proposition for who you get making the 2 litres of wine. Easy drinking rose, a bit peaches and cream, a bit strawberries and cream, soft and juicy, fresh feeling and generally a good time. A nice little smudge of tannin and chew in there somewhere, a blast of blood orange tartness to close. It’s a great drink here, if not a touch fancy! Winner.

VALENTINE

Dom Valentine, has a deft touch with all things vinous. He consistently makes some of our favourite Australian wines. With a couple of science degrees and an impressive resume of winemaking jobs under his belt (Leeuwin Estate, Oakridge and Georg Breuer to name a few), Valentine picked the Yarra Valley as his winemaking home, where he specialises in Riesling, Grenache and Rosé.

Crisp and refreshing, as we believe all good pink wine should be!  This rosé also has a beautifully textured mouthfeel, with pretty red summer berries and floral aromas.
