From winemaker Guy Lyons Lowboi label, we are excited to release our first wine from Western Australia! A richer style of Grüner, blended with a splash of crisp Riesling. Fresh green apple, nashi pear, and white pepper, and floral blossom. Chalky on the palate, with a invigorating, lightly salty, dry finish.

Guy and Nicola Lyons established Lowboi in 2017, from a single vineyard site in the Porongurup, a sub-region of Western Australia’s Great Southern. From that site they initially focused on Riesling and Chardonnay that had been planted in 1985. The name Lowboi, comes from the farm Guy’s mother grew up on.

The Grüner Veltliner comes from Guy’s family farm, Forest Hill, located in Mount Barker, and is a newer addition to the Lowboi label, with the first release being in 2019. The vines grow on classic ironstone gravel, with sandy loam over clay. Guy notes that the cool nights and long extended growing season in the region are ideally suited to the variety which hails from Austria. These conditions help to produce a delicious and respectful example of Grüner Veltliner. A decade after planting their first Grüner vines in the Great Southern, Guy and Nicola are learning how to harness the potential of this site. The wines from 2021 vintage are showing the most concentration we have seen to date.
